Culture@ marks the beginning of a broader movement by BLACK PEARL to document and celebrate cultural expression through style. The initiative looks at clothing as a living archive—one shaped by age, race, class, identity, faith, disability, and education. By centering personal narratives and cultural lineage, Culture@ amplifies voices, preserves traditions, and brings forward a global story of how people express who they are through what they wear.
The first chapter of the series launched at COP28, the United Nations Climate Conference in Dubai, where clothing became an unexpected yet powerful form of climate communication. BLACK PEARL photographed attendees in the garments, accessories, and cultural attire they chose to bring with them—recognizing that fashion often carries the histories, values, and communities people represent on the world stage.

Photographed by Pamela Ea, these early portraits reveal the diversity of expression present at COP28: people wearing the textiles of their homelands, heirlooms passed through generations, handcrafted symbols of identity, and garments rooted in ceremony, activism, and pride. Beyond taking portraits, BLACK PEARL invited participants to share the stories behind what they wore. Each conversation uncovered deeper meaning—rituals inherited from ancestors, regional craftsmanship preserved through practice, or choices made to represent home while advocating for a shared, environment-friendly future.
