Los Angeles, CA — In the wake of the devastating wildfires that have ravaged communities across Los Angeles, the fashion industry has a critical opportunity to embrace circularity—not just for the sake of sustainability, but to help those in need. As communities rebuild and people struggle to recover from unimaginable loss, now is the time for fashion brands and creatives to make a difference.
Don’t Waste It. Let BLACK PEARL Help!
BLACK PEARL is calling on fashion brands, wholesalers, and creatives in Los Angeles with deadstock items, excess inventory, or unused goods to contribute to the relief efforts. Rather than letting these items go to waste, BLACK PEARL asks that you donate them to support the victims of the wildfires.
By donating surplus stock or goods that are destined for the landfill, fashion companies can make a tangible difference for those who’ve lost everything. These donations will provide immediate relief to families in need while giving your products a second life in a time of crisis.
A collection and distribution site will be set up in Los Angeles, where BLACK PEARL will sort and distribute donated clothing directly to communities affected by the fires. This initiative aims to not only reduce textile waste but to provide essential resources to individuals who are suffering.
Today’s Textile Waste Stats:
- 8 million tons of textile waste are generated annually in the U.S.
- 92 million tons of textile waste are dumped into landfills globally each year.
- The fashion industry accounts for 4-8.6% of global carbon emissions.
Why Excess Stock and Inventory?
With efforts collecting gently worn and pre-loved items, we’re tackling excess stock. In 2024, this accounted for an estimated 2.5 billion to 5 billion items in the fashion industry. Brands often have 20% surplus inventory, with some U.S. stores holding up to 50%. This is due to inaccurate forecasting, fast trends, seasonality, and supply chain disruptions. This excess can be redirected to provide relief—help us make it happen!
Every unwanted garment is an opportunity lost—not just for the environment, but for communities in need. Let’s change that.
