BLACK PEARL founder Samata Pattinson had the honor of addressing the Washington State House of Representatives during their Environment & Energy Meeting, discussing the critical environmental impacts of the fashion industry. The Washington House of Representatives, comprising 98 members from 49 districts, plays a pivotal role in shaping legislative decisions affecting the state’s environment and energy policies.
The speaker expressed pride in seeing fashion take center stage in this vital conversation, highlighting the interconnectedness of the industry with the planet. As a British-born Ghanaian residing in the U.S., the speaker was particularly honored to present ‘BLACK PEARL’ in such a prestigious legislative forum.
The Environment & Energy Committee, responsible for addressing issues including air quality, climate change, and environmental regulations, serves as a crucial platform for discussing sustainable practices. The Washington House of Representatives is the lower house of the Washington State Legislature, and along with the Washington State Senate makes up the legislature of the U.S. state of Washington. It is composed of 98 Representatives from 49 districts, each of which elects one Senator and two members of the House. They are elected to separate positions with the top-two primary system. All members of the House are elected to a two-year term without term limits. The House meets at the State Capitol in Olympia.
BLACK PEARL extends gratitude to Committee Chair Beth Doglio (D), Vice Chair Sharlett Mena (D), and other committee members for the opportunity to share insights.
